LSU football has several true freshmen who could contribute in a big way in 2020.

It’s almost ridiculous how much talent LSU football has on their roster.

The Tigers lost a lot of key players to the 2020 NFL Draft, but they have plenty of high-quality replacement options.

One of those options, a true freshman, is flying under the radar a bit.

Four-star running back Kevontre Bradford, a Texas native who was rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 13 running back in the 2020 recruiting class, could be a difference-maker for the Tigers this upcoming season.

LSU doesn’t have a clear starter at running back. Chris Curry is the most likely option to be the de facto starter when the season starts, but it’s more likely that we’ll see a running back by committee approach until someone separates from the pack.

On Tuesday, I suggested that John Emery will eventually be that running back. I still feel that way today. But I think Bradford could also end up being a big part of LSU’s offense in 2020.

And I’m not the only one that feels that way.

Bradford could play a key role for LSU football in 2020

Tigers running backs coach Kevin Faulk told 104.5 in Baton Rouge on Wednesday that Bradford has “track speed” and that LSU plans on getting the true freshman running back “out on the edge”.

Basically, it sounds like the Tigers want to get Bradford the ball in space and let him go to work. Given that he was a track star in high school, it’s safe to surmise that Bradford will be a threat to score every time he touches the ball.

LSU’s offense will remain mostly the same in 2020 with new passing game coordinator Scott Linehan in the mix. But there will undoubtedly be some new wrinkles that we didn’t see in 2019.

That’s because the Tigers will have some unique weapons (Bradford and true freshman tight end/freak athlete Arik Gilbert for example) that will allow the offensive staff to get creative.

The Tigers’ offense may not dominate in 2020 the way it did in 2019, but it’s still going to be a lot of fun to watch.
