LSU football may have uncovered a hidden gem in the 2021 recruiting class.

LSU football, like every other elite program in the nation, primarily targets highly rated recruits.

After all, the teams with the top-rated recruiting classes are usually the ones playing in the College Football Playoff at the end of the season.

But it’s not exclusively highly rated recruits that make an impact for an elite program.

For example, former LSU wide receiver Justin Jefferson was rated as a two-star recruit by Rivals in 2017. Fast forward three years and he’s a national champion and a first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.

There are hidden gems like Jefferson in nearly every recruiting class. And the Tigers may have found one in the 2021 recruiting class.

LSU football’s lowest-rated commit could be a steal

2021 three-star defensive tackle Anthony Hundley is LSU’s lowest rated commit in its 2021 recruiting class (not counting punter Peyton Todd, who hasn’t been rated by any of the major recruiting services).

Hundley’s composite score is .8696. The next commit on the list for the Tigers is Khari Gee with a .8904 score (that’s basically the difference in mid-range three-star and four-star recruit).

In other words, Hundley, according to the recruiting services, isn’t the same caliber player that LSU typically signs.

But Coach O and the Tigers clearly see something in the Miami native, who is rated by 247Sports as the No. 108 player in the state of Florida.

And the recruiting services are starting to agree.

Rivals recruiting analysts Adam Gorney and Mike Farrell recently pointed out several three-star players to keep an eye on in the coming months.

Hundley was one of the players they included.

“An athletic and undersized tackle from Florida, Hundley is a good get for LSU as the Tigers try to become more of a force in Florida”, said Farrell.

No one knows defensive linemen quite like Coach O. That’s probably why Gorney, Farrell and other programs are starting to pay extra attention to Hundley (he just received an offer from Michigan earlier this month).

Next. 247Sports says LSU has the top two players in the SEC. dark

It wouldn’t surprise me if Hundley climbs in the recruiting rankings in the not-so-distant future, simply because of his commitment to LSU.
