LSU football is hoping to become a factor for a four-star wide receiver from Virginia.

LSU football is becoming the premier destination for top wide receiver recruits.

From Odell Beckham Jr and Jarvis Landry to Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase, the Tigers have produced some of the best wide receivers in football.

That’s obviously a big selling point for LSU these days with wide receivers on the recruiting trail. And it could help the Tigers in their pursuit of 2021 four-star wide receiver Malcolm Johnson.

Malcolm Johnson would be a nice addition for LSU football

Johnson, 6-foot-1/185 lbs from Alexandria, VA, is rated by 247Sports as the No. 4 player in the state of Maryland and the No. 16 wide receiver in the nation.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn says Johnson has “elite speed” and is “nearly impossible to catch in open field”.

Dohn noted that Johnson, who also runs track (and hopes to in college as well), has good ball skills, accelerates well, and can high-point the ball in traffic.

Rivals recruiting analyst Adam Friedman recently “ranked the contenders” for Johnson and he has LSU as the No. 6 most likely team to land the dynamic wide receiver, behind Maryland, Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and Texas.

Friedman noted that LSU’s track program is of interest to Johnson.

Johnson could be a game-changing talent for any program in the SEC. Speed can’t be taught, so it’s easy to see why the Tigers are hoping to land the four-star wide receiver.

For now, Johnson doesn’t have a planned commitment date. He told Rivals earlier this year that he’s hoping to take some visits before making his final decision. As of now, it’s unclear when the NCAA will allow visits to resume.

LSU currently has 11 players committed to its 2021 recruiting class.
