LSU football is one of the many programs hoping to land five-star running back Camar Wheaton.

2021 five-star running back Camar Wheaton is one of the top prospects in the nation and LSU football is in the mix to land him.

Wheaton, 5-foot-11/190 lbs from Garland, TX (Lakeview Centennial), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 player in the state of Texas and the No. 2 running back in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 19 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.

247Sports’ Shea Dixon recently updated Wheaton’s recruitment and noted that the talented running back is “putting recruiting on the back burner” for now.

Dixon says that Oklahoma, Texas, LSU and SMU are teams to “really monitor” as Wheaton inches closer to a decision.

There’s a long way to go in Wheaton’s recruitment, but it seems clear the Tigers are going to be strongly in the mix for the Texas native.

Landing Wheaton would be massive for LSU football

Not only would landing Wheaton vault LSU’s 2021 recruiting class close to the top of the rankings, but it would also give the Tigers another elite playmaker.

Wheaton is described by 247Sports midland region recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks as a “big-play back with outstanding top-end speed”.

Brooks continued his evaluation of Wheaton by saying he’s a “big-play threat on every touch and is among the nation’s top 2021 running back prospects with long-term early-round NFL Draft ceiling”.

The NFL comparison for Wheaton, according to Brooks, is former USC running back Ronald Jones II, who was selected in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (Jones is also a Texas native).
