LSU football is hoping to land a commitment from five-star defensive tackle Maason Smith.

Five-star defensive tackle Maason Smith is undoubtedly one of LSU football‘s top 2021 recruiting targets.

Smith, 6-foot-5/316 lbs from Houma, LA (Terrebonne), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 2 defensive tackle in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 20 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.

The dominant defensive lineman recently updated his recruitment in an interview with Rivals.

Smith told Rivals that he plans to reveal his top eight schools on July 4. For now, it appears that LSU, Georgia and Alabama are a lock to land in Smith’s top eight.

And I have to imagine the Tigers are out in front.

“I talk to them every day…..It’s an every-day thing,” said Smith.

Smith also said that the coaches he’s spoken with in recent weeks have indicated that official visits will be able to resume in September (the NCAA recently extended the recruiting dead period through August 31).

The Louisiana native plans to take his five official visits this fall and then sign with a program in December.

Could LSU football lure five-star defensive lineman Korey Foreman to Baton Rouge as well?

One of the popular storylines surrounding Smith’s recruitment is his desire to play with five-star defensive lineman Korey Foreman in college.

Foreman, a former Clemson commit, appears to be leaning toward USC, though LSU is certainly in the mix.

If the duo is going to play together, then it would most likely be at LSU.

However, according to Rivals, playing with Foreman is “not the most important factor right now” for Smith.

There’s still a long way to go in Smith’s recruitment, but I feel good about the Tigers’ chances to land the stud defensive lineman. I’d be surprised if he didn’t end up at LSU.

As for Foreman?

We’ll just have to wait and see.
