LSU Football: Caleb Williams sounds like his mind is made up
By Zach Ragan
LSU football is one of the top three programs for 2021 five-star quarterback Caleb Williams.
2021 five-star quarterback Caleb Williams is set to announce his commitment on July 4 and LSU football is one of his top three schools.
Maryland and Oklahoma are the other two programs in Williams’ top three.
The nation’s No. 4 overall recruit commented on his top three schools this week and it sounds like his mind is already made up.
Williams had positive things to say about LSU, but it seems clear that he’s destined to be a Sooner.
“One thing I like about LSU is their energy overall, the fans, students and players and coaches, the energy is unmatched,” said Williams to 247Sports.
The dynamic quarterback said of Oklahoma “Their track record with their past three quarterbacks they had…..Look at the stats. That’s straight directly towards Coach (Lincoln) Riley. He’s an offensive mastermind type guy….His last three guys have been in the last four chairs of the Heisman.”
Williams’ ultimate goal is to get to the NFL. And I think he sees Oklahoma as a better option than LSU (and Maryland) because of Riley’s track record over the last several years.
I’d be stunned if Williams didn’t land with the Sooners on July 4.
LSU football won’t be hurting too much if they miss on Williams
There’s no doubt the Tigers want Williams in Baton Rouge. But if they miss on the five-star signal-caller, the program will be just fine.
That’s because LSU already has a commitment from 2021 four-star quarterback Garrett Nussmeier.
And I think Nussmeier is actually a better fit at LSU than Williams (for reasons I detailed here).
Missing on top recruits is never ideal, but this is a situation where Norman, OK just makes more sense for Williams than Baton Rouge.
