LSU football could be adding a four-star defensive end this week.

LSU football‘s 2021 recruiting class currently has 12 members, but it could be up to 13 by the end of the week.

That’s because 2021 four-star edge rusher Naquan Brown, 6-foot-3/205 lbs from Virginia Beach, VA (Ocean Lakes), is expected to announce his commitment on Wednesday.

And the Tigers are in a good position to land him.

On Tuesday, Brown previewed his commitment with Rivals recruiting analyst Adam Friedman.

Brown said he was basing his commitment on which team “stays in touch”, something LSU has been doing a good job with during the Virginia native’s recruitment.

“Coach O and the defensive line coach have really been keeping in touch They show a lot of interest and make it clear that they want me,” said Brown to Rivals.

Friedman noted that Brown, who is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 7 player in the state of Virginia, is expected to announce his commitment around 5 PM ET or 6 PM ET on Wednesday.

What would Brown bring to LSU football?

“Brown is a versatile prospect that could play linebacker and be a dangerous edge rushing presence in passing situations,” writes Friedman.

Edge rushers are one of the most important positions on the field. Elite quarterbacks are needed to win championships. But elite edge rushers are also needed — you gotta stop those quarterbacks somehow.

And Brown is a player that has the potential to be an elite edge rusher in the SEC.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn says Brown has “plus athleticism” and is “willing to sacrifice [his] body to make [a] play”.

That sounds like a perfect fit for Coach O and defensive coordinator Bo Pelini (and Pelini’s “attacking style defense”).

There isn’t a better place for an edge rusher to land than Baton Rouge. I’m expecting Brown to go with the Tigers on Wednesday.
