LSU football is hoping to land an elite in-state 2021 safety.

2021 four-star defensive back Sage Ryan is one of the top recruits in the country and LSU football is hoping to land him.

Ryan, 5-foot-11/193 lbs from Lafayette, LA (Lafayette Christian Academy), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 2 player in the state of Louisiana and the No. 1 safety in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 40 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.

The Louisiana native has an impressive offer list, including Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, and Texas, among many others.

But it’s LSU that probably has the best shot to land the dynamic safety.

That’s because Ryan has family ties to the Tigers and grew up going to games in Baton Rouge.

“I went to games when I was young, and my cousins and uncles played there. So I’ve just kind of got a close relationship with the school and the program,” said Ryan recently to Rivals.

Former LSU running back Kevin Faulk is Ryan’s cousin. Trev Faulk, Ryan’s uncle, was a linebacker for the Tigers.

Ryan is purposefully being patient with his decision, but it certainly appears that LSU will be the team to beat in this recruiting race.

What LSU football would get in Sage Ryan

Ryan is a player that probably had a good chance to reach five-star status this summer, but a lack of camps/exposure has prevented that from happening.

247Sports midland region recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks describes Ryan as a “versatile, athletic football player with functional size that could translate to cornerback, safety, nickel, receiver, or even running back”.

Brooks also notes that Ryan “flashes impressive burst and acceleration, plus terrific top-end speed” and is a dangerous option in the return game.

There’s no doubt that Ryan would thrive in Bo Pelini’s defense at LSU.

But will Ryan follow in his family’s footsteps and join the Tigers?

My gut says he does, but we’ll have to wait and see what happens in the coming months.
