LSU football appears to be an early favorite for a top-rated 2022 recruit.

The 2020 college football season may be in jeopardy right now, but that doesn’t mean LSU football is putting recruiting on hold.

In fact, the Tigers are hitting the recruiting trail as hard as ever (virtually, of course).

LSU appears to be an early favorite for one of the best 2022 recruits in the nation.

Five-star defensive lineman Walter Nolen, 6-foot-4/300 lbs from Olive Branch, MS (he currently plays high school football at IMG Acadamy in Bradenton, FL), is rated by 247Sports as the No. 6 overall 2022 recruit in the nation.

Where does LSU football stand for Nolen?

Nolen recently discussed his recruitment with Rivals and he said that LSU and Ohio State are the two programs standing out for him at the moment.

“I have been to LSU and I like it a lot. They always have a great defensive line and I like how the head coach knows that position,” said Nolen.

The dynamic defensive lineman also mentioned that he has a former teammate that plays for the Tigers (former three-star offensive lineman Xavier Hill).

Nolen plans to commit in either late 2020 or early 2021, so the fact that LSU is at the top of his list in July is important. There’s not a lot of him left until a potential commitment and it’s unclear when visits will be able to resume.

The Mississippi native has visited LSU before, but he hopes to make a return trip to Baton Rouge before committing.

Nolen told Rivals that “team chemistry and the coaching staff are the two most important things” to the five-star recruit.

Next. LSU needs to offer in-state DB. dark

There’s not a better place for a defensive lineman to sign with than LSU, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Tigers land a commitment from Nolen.
