LSU Football: Proof that Tigers can recruit better than other top programs
By Zach Ragan
LSU football isn’t messing around when it comes to their pursuit of one of the nation’s top defensive backs.
2021 defensive back Corey Collier is one of the top safeties in the nation and LSU football, unsurprisingly, has made him a priority.
Collier, 6-foot-2/170 lbs from Miami, FL (Miami Palmetto), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 14 player in the state of Florida and the No. 3 safety in the nation.
Rivals is actually a bit higher on Collier than 247Sports. Rivals has Collier rated as a five-star recruit. They also have Collier rated as the top 2021 safety in the nation.
Collier is described by 247Sports Miami Insider Andrew Ivins as an “intelligent defender with good ball skills that knows how to take the right angles”.
LSU football is showing why the program is a recruiting juggernaut
Collier has an impressive offer list, including offers from Clemson, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, and Tennessee (along with his offer from LSU), among many others.
It’s LSU, however, that’s doing the best job of communicating with Collier.
In fact, some of the other programs that are recruiting Collier are barely in contact with the dynamic safety.
“Clemson, I haven’t heard from them in a while. I don’t hear from them at all. I’ve been to Georgia one time. I haven’t heard from them in a while either,” said Collier when recently discussing his recruitment with Rivals.
“I really hear a lot from LSU. LSU calls me like every day. I hear from Florida a little bit and I hear from Miami a little bit, but LSU calls me the most,” added Collier.
It’s clear that Collier is a highly sought after player. Nearly every major program in the nation would be thrilled to have him on their roster.
But it appears that other top programs just aren’t willing to put in the work on the recruiting trail like LSU.
Ed Orgeron and his staff are always grinding. That’s part of the reason why LSU recruits at such a high level.
The Tigers are truly on another level. And their pursuit of Collier is proof of that.
