Can LSU football land the nation’s top recruit?

LSU football has been firmly in the mix for the nation’s top-rated 2021 recruit, five-star defensive lineman Korey Foreman, for several months now.

In fact, 247Sports national recruiting director Steve Wiltfong said in late May that he was looking “real hard” at LSU for Foreman, noting that some folks close to the five-star recruit believe he’s SEC bound.

Recruiting, however, is extremely fluid. Things change at a moment’s notice — especially in the middle of a global pandemic.

And that appears to be the case with Foreman.

Rivals recruiting analysts Mike Farrell and Adam Gorney said this week that they believe the battle for Foreman will ultimately come down to Oregon and USC.

“The SEC lure is strong, but recruiting is going very well at USC now and the pull of Mario Cristobal at Oregon for elite Southern Cal players is strong. I still think he (Foreman) stays closer to home,” wrote Farrell.

Gorney added “I still expect this to be a USC/Oregon battle…USC has a lot going for it and Oregon has been relentless in its pursuit of Foreman”.

Of course, this could all change if Foreman has a great visit to Baton Rouge. And, for now, the plan for Foreman is to visit his top schools before eventually making decisions.

(The recruiting dead period, brought on by the coronavirus outbreak, currently runs through August 31. It’s unclear at this time if visits will be allowed to resume in September.)

LSU football’s secret weapon in the battle for Foreman

One reason that LSU will remain in this battle to the very end is five-star defensive lineman Maason Smith, who is considered a heavy Tigers lean.

Foreman and Smith have made it clear that they’d love to play with each other in college. The only place that could happen is probably at LSU.

The elite defensive line duo isn’t tied to each other, but this is still a nice selling point for the Tigers.
