LSU Football: What makes Ja’Marr Chase the best WR in college football
By Zach Ragan
LSU football’s Ja’Marr Chase is easily the best wide receiver in college football.
LSU football wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase is so good that he likely would’ve been a top 10 selection in the 2020 NFL Draft.
But fortunately for Tigers fans, Chase was a sophomore in 2019, meaning he has two years of eligibility remaining at LSU (though he’ll almost certainly head to the NFL after the 2020 season).
After a sensational 2019 season that included a national championship win and a ridiculous stat line (84 receptions for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns), it would be easy for Chase to put it on cruise control and take it easy in 2020. After all, Chase can’t raise his draft stock any this season. And he already has a ring. What else does he have left to prove in college?
Well, nothing. But don’t expect that to slow him down. Chase is not like most humans.
What makes LSU football’s Ja’Marr Chase so good
Sonny Shipp, who covers LSU for 247Sports, reported this week that Chase is “hungrier than ever” and “does not even want to discuss last year”.
Shipp added that Chase has zero interest in discussing his NFL future or the projections that have the talented wide receiver being selected high in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The fact that Chase isn’t planning on taking it easy, or worrying about the NFL, is exactly why he’s the best wide receiver in college football.
Chase is just wired differently than most players. I have no doubt that the NFL is somewhere in the back of his mind — that’s surely his ultimate goal.
But for now, it’s all about continuing his success from last season. And working to bring another championship to Baton Rouge.
Chase is a truly special player. It’ll be a long time before we see another wide receiver like him in the college game.
