LSU football looks like one of the programs to beat for a four-star tight end from Florida.

Four-star recruit Michael Trigg is one of the top 2021 tight ends in the nation and he has LSU football among his top schools.

Trigg, 6-foot-4/230 lbs from Tampa, FL (Carrollwood Day), recently discussed his recruitment with Rivals and he said the Tigers are “definitely” in his top five.

The Florida native is a two-sport athlete, playing basketball as well. LSU is one of the programs that’s offered Trigg in both basketball and football.

In fact, the Tigers were one of the first programs to offer Trigg in both sports, which set off a chain of other programs making the same offer to the dynamic tight end.

“Once I got that (offer) from LSU, a lot of other schools started messaging and calling about playing for them,” said Trigg to Rivals.

USC and Kentucky are two of the programs that have offered Trigg in both sports.

What would LSU football get with Trigg?

Trigg has all the tools to be a great pass-catching tight end — great size and great athleticism. He has the pedigree, too. Numerous tight ends over the years have been ex-basketball players (Antonio Gates and Jimmy Graham for example), so Trigg definitely fits into that mold.

As far as his other attributes, 247Sports director of scouting Barton Simmons says Trigg has a “significant upside in the right system”.

For now, it appears that Trigg is more of a hybrid type tight end. He probably won’t be the best blocker on the team, but he’s not quite fast enough to be a wide receiver. However, Trigg is a natural pass catcher who could certainly create some mismatches in the SEC.

Trigg is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 22 player in the state of Florida and the No. 5 tight end in the nation.

Next. LSU's top 2021 recruiting target may have some new plans. dark

LSU currently has 16 players committed to its 2021 recruiting class. The Tigers don’t have any tight ends committed yet.
