LSU football is the premier destination for college football players.

LSU football is at a point right now where they’re basically only pursuing the nation’s top-rated recruits.

Take the recruitment of 2021 three-star running back Logan Diggs for example.

Diggs is from Baton Rouge and he’s rated as the No. 17 player in the state of Louisiana. Not bad for being in such a talent-rich state. But Diggs still doesn’t have an offer from the Tigers. That just shows the kind of elite players Ed Orgeron and his staff are recruiting.

Recruits are aware of this. They know that LSU isn’t a place where players go to play early. It’s a place where players go to get developed, compete for championships, and ultimately reach the NFL.

A lot of top players head to college expecting to start from day one. But at LSU, that’s not the expectation. They know it will be a battle to earn playing time.

Elite cornerback knows how tough it is to start for LSU football

2021 four-star cornerback Isaiah Johnson, 6-foot-2/180 lbs from Playa Del Rey, CA (originally from Bluefield, WV), is one of the top defensive backs in the nation. Johnson is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 10 player in the state of California and the No. 6 cornerback in the nation.

The dynamic cornerback is high on LSU, recently telling 247Sports that the Tigers are among his top five schools.

“Me and coach Raymond and Coach O, we have a really good relationship. I talk to those guys nearly every day,” said Johnson to Rivals.

Despite being one of the best 2021 recruits in the country, Johnson is under no illusion that he’d walk into a starting role with the Tigers if he landed in Baton Rouge.

“I feel like I would have a good chance to play if I work hard enough, which I will. It’s DBU. You can’t go wrong with LSU. They put guys in the league left and right”, explained Johnson.

It’s not often that you hear a top-rated defensive back tell a reporter that they feel like they’d “have a good chance to play” at a program.

But that’s the kind of reputation LSU has right now. Recruits know it’s a premier destination for the best football players on the planet.
