LSU football is one of several programs hoping to land a four-star recruit from Texas.

2021 four-star defensive end Shemar Turner is one of the top defensive recruits in the nation and LSU football is one of the programs that are near the top of his list.

Turner, 6-foot-4/282 lbs from DeSoto, TX (DeSoto), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 19 player in the state of Texas and the No. 10 strongside defensive end in the nation.

Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and Texas A&M are the other programs strongly in the mix to land Turner.

Texas has been viewed as the favorite for Turner, but it now appears the SEC programs are a major factor for the dynamic defensive end.

Turner told Rivals this week that Georgia, LSU, and Texas A&M are the programs he’s been talking to the most lately.

Rivals recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman wrote that “SEC teams are convincing Turner that he’d be in a better position to get drafted by playing in that conference”.

Spiegelman also suggested that that the four SEC programs (Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and Texas A&M) appear to be in a better position to land Turner than Texas (for now).

Turner has yet to visit Baton Rouge. That visit, if/when it happens, will be a huge determining factor in whether or not the Tigers land the four-star recruit.

What would Turner bring to LSU football?

247Sports midland region recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks says Turner “flashes impressive pursuit ability and straight-line closing speed”.

Brooks also noted that Turner is a “versatile defensive lineman with impressive build and experience against strong competition” and “projects to high-major level with long-term NFL Draft potential with proper development”.
