LSU football’s Ja’Marr Chase has the highest earning potential in the SEC.
At some point, in the not-so-distant future, college football players will be able to earn money from their name, image, and likeness (NIL) and LSU football‘s Ja’Marr Chase could be the biggest benefactor in the SEC (if it happens while he’s still in college).
Legislation has been proposed by the Power-5 conferences that would allow athletes to earn money while in college (albeit with some restrictions). It’s unclear when this will actually become a reality, but it’s undoubtedly coming to college sports.
One of the big questions surrounding this potential rule change is how much extra cash would athletes make?
Well, if players were currently allowed to profit off their name, image, and likeness, Chase would be the biggest earner in college football.
How much would LSU football’s Ja’Marr Chase earn?
It’s no surprise that Chase, considered by most folks to be the best wide receiver in college football, would the highest earner.
According to Opendorse, Chase has an estimated annual earning potential of $508,000.
Opendorse says each of Chase’s Instagram posts has a value of $5,931 and each of his tweets has a value of $587.
(Chase has 228k Instagram followers and 68k Twitter followers.)
Alabama running back Najee Harris is behind Chase with an estimated annual earning potential of $233,000.
Chase is on his way to making a lot of cash with or without name, image, and likeness legislation. The LSU standout will almost certainly be the first wide receiver selected in the 2021 NFL Draft, which will come with a paycheck much heftier than the estimated $508,000 he’d potentially make off his name, image, and likeness at LSU.
Still, this is going to be a positive for players like Chase who are making programs a lot of money without getting much in return.
