LSU Football: Ja’Marr Chase’s decision isn’t at all surprising
By Zach Ragan
LSU football’s Ja’Marr Chase will not sit out the shortened 2020 season.
You could hardly blame LSU football wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase for choosing to sit out the 2020 season.
After all, Chase is already going to be a top five selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has nothing left to prove after catching 84 passes for 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns.
In fact, if anything, Chase has a lot to lose. What if he suffers a catastrophic knee injury? Or some other significant injury? That could completely derail his future NFL career.
And then there’s the whole COVID-19 situation, too. There are inevitably going to be positive COVID-19 tests throughout the season. And some players will likely get very sick (young folks aren’t completely safe from severe symptoms).
Despite all of those factors, Chase is going to play for LSU in 2020.
The decision was reported by 247Sports on Wednesday and confirmed by The Advocate’s Brooks Kubena, who spoke with Chase’s father.
Kubena reported that Chase’s father said his son is “locked in” to play in 2020.
The LSU football standout is too competitive not to play
The fact that Chase is playing in 2020 isn’t surprising at all.
There’s no doubt that Chase is the best wide receiver in college football. It would be hard to find an analyst who disagrees.
Yet Chase has been described this offseason as “hungrier than ever”. It’s also been reported that Chase has no interest in talking about last season or the NFL, choosing instead to focus only on the 2020 season.
Chase is the best wide receiver in the country for a reason — he has an incredible work ethic. And it’s because of that work ethic that Chase will be suiting up in Baton Rouge this fall.
