LSU football is hoping to steal an elite defensive lineman from an SEC rival.

LSU football knows a thing or two about going into Georgia and stealing elite talent.

The Tigers swiped five-star tight end Arik Gilbert and four-star defensive end BJ Ojulari out of the state during the 2020 recruiting cycle.

It’s no surprise that LSU is once again hoping to utilize their Peach State connections and steal some elite talent.

This time the Tigers are targeting 2022 four-star defensive tackle Mykel Williams, 6-foot-5/255 lbs from Columbus, GA.

Williams is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 6 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 4 defensive tackle in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 54 overall recruit in the nation.

LSU football will have plenty of competition for Williams

Georgia isn’t the only program that LSU will have to battle for Williams.

The talented defensive lineman also has offers from Auburn, Clemson, Ohio State, and Tennessee, among others.

For now, Williams is making plans to visit Clemson, Georgia, and LSU when the recruiting dead period ends.

(The recruiting dead period currently runs through August 31, but that’s expected to be extended until September 30 and possibly through the end of the year).

Williams doesn’t currently have a list of top schools, but it certainly appears that Clemson, Georgia, and LSU will be near the top of his list.

And unsurprisingly, the Bulldogs will likely be the team to beat.

“I like Georgia a lot. It will come down to them and a few other schools,” said Williams to 247Sports this week.

LSU has plenty of time to get Williams on campus, even if the dead period is extended. A visit could make all the difference, which makes this a recruitment that Tigers fans should keep an eye on.
