LSU football is among the teams to beat for a four-star wide receiver.

2021 four-star wide receiver Malcolm Johnson Jr revealed his top five schools this week and LSU football made the cut, along with Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and Georgia.

Johnson, 6-foot-1/185 lbs from Alexandria, VA (St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes), is rated by 247Sports as the No. 3 player in the state of Virginia and the No. 16 wide receiver in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 118 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.

The dynamic wide receiver recently spoke to 247Sports about his recruitment and made it clear that he was impressed by how the Tigers use their wide receivers.

“I think one of their receivers (Justin Jefferson) had 110 catches. It’s crazy. Another (Ja’Marr Chase) had close to 100. They pass a lot, too, which is very attractive to a receiver,” said Johnson (via 247Sports).

Johnson, who also runs track, told 247Sports that he wants to go to a program that knows how to utilize his speed in its offense.

I’d say LSU would be a good option for the talented wide receiver if that’s one of the main things he’s looking for in a program.

What would Johnson bring to LSU football?

Johnson, as evidenced by the fact he runs track, is a speedster. The Virginia native runs the 55 meter in 6.26 seconds, which is plenty fast enough to have success in the SEC.

247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn says Johnson is “tough to jam at the line because of physical strength and speed intimidation” and “shows good hand technique and is difficult to re-route”.

Dohn also notes that Johnson is “effective on short routes and deep” and “shows [the] ability to high-point ball in traffic”.
