LSU Football: Could we get another SEC schedule shake-up?
By Zach Ragan
LSU football just recently learned its 2020 SEC schedule.
LSU football and the rest of the SEC just learned last week which teams they’ll be playing in 2020.
The Tigers, along with the rest of the conference, will play a 10-game SEC only schedule.
For LSU, that means playing the eight games they were already scheduled to play, plus matchups against Vanderbilt and Missouri.
But is it possible we could see the SEC schedule change again before the season starts?
It’s not likely, but I think there’s at least a small possibility.
The Big 10 decision could affect LSU football this fall
On Tuesday, the Big 10 officially announced that their fall football season will be canceled (with the hope of possibly playing in the spring).
The Big 10’s decision went directly against the wishes of numerous student-athletes and head coaches.
One of the coaches who disagrees with the decision is Ohio State head coach Ryan Day, who tweeted his support of the #wewanttoplay movement.
Day was asked this week if he thought Ohio State should explore playing with other conferences this fall.
The Ohio State coach told ESPN’s College Football Live that if it’s the only way the kids can play, then it’s an idea that should be explored.
“We need to look at every option and if that’s the only option at the time, we need to explore it and see if that’s something that we can possibly do (playing with another conference). If it is and that’s what’s best for our kids, then certainly we need to look at that and do it,” said Day (via 247Sports).
If Ohio State, or any other conferences, join the SEC for the fall season, it would mean the schedule would need to be completely re-worked.
I would be shocked if this actually happens. I can’t see the Big 10 allowing it. And I’m not sure Ohio State, or any other programs, would be willing to get kicked out of their conference (Big 10 commisioner Kevin Warren threatened to kick Nebraska out of the Big 10 if they play with another conference this fall).
Of course, this year has been full of unexpected events. So maybe something wild like Ohio State joining the SEC will happen after all.
