LSU football stole a key recruit from the west coast earlier this year.

2021 four-star linebacker Raesjon Davis is LSU football‘s highest-rated commit, so far, during the current recruiting cycle.

Davis, 6-foot-1/215 lbs from Santa Ana, CA (Mater Dei), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 3 player in the state of California and the No. 3 outside linebacker in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 36 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.

The California native committed to LSU on New Year’s Day earlier this year. He chose LSU over Auburn, Ohio State, Texas, and USC, among others.

One of those programs is where most folks felt Davis would land.

USC is where Davis was expected to land. And the fact that he didn’t was described this week by Rivals recruiting analyst Mike Farrell as one of the “biggest losses on the recruiting trail in 2021”.

“Mater Dei kids go to USC and most expected Davis to do the same before he picked LSU, so losing another big-time linebacker hurts USC,” wrote Farrell.

Davis committed to LSU in January mainly because of the incredible family atmosphere in Baton Rouge.

“He (Orgeron) told me he would treat me as if I was his own son when I get there. That’s what really connected with me. He talked to my parents, he talked to my little brother. It was a great atmosphere and I loved everything about it,” said Davis to Rivals earlier this year.

If you’re a Tigers fan, don’t worry about USC coming into the picture late and stealing Davis. The dynamic linebacker is solid to LSU.

“I’m really fully committed to LSU,” said Davis in June.

Davis may not be rated as a five-star recruit, but he’s absolutely one of the top 2021 recruits in the nation. LSU stealing him away from USC is just another example of how dominant the Tigers are on the recruiting trail.
