LSU football is in the driver’s seat for one of the nation’s top 2021 safeties.

2021 four-star safety Andrew Mukuba wants to make a college decision in the very near future and it appears that LSU football is the program to beat.

Mukuba, 6-foot/185 lbs from Austin, TX, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 40 player in the state of Texas and the No. 12 safety in the nation.

The dynamic defensive back has been showing interest in Clemson, LSU, and Texas during the recruiting process, but it’s the Tigers that have done the best job of communicating with Mukuba.

The Texas native recently discussed his recruitment with 247Sports and mentioned that he speaks with LSU every day. Specifically, Mukuba speaks with safeties coach Bill Busch every day.

As for the other programs?

Well, Mukuba only speaks with Clemson and Texas “once or twice a week”.

“With Coach Busch, it’s great. Our relationship is pretty tight. He calls me every day. And I’ve even had the chance to get to know his family, and I’ve talked with them and things like that. We’ve got a great relationship,” said Mukuba to 247Sports.

In addition to talking with Busch on a daily basis, Mukuba also speaks with Ed Orgeron a couple of times a week.

“It’s amazing talking with Coach O. He is such a good person. It’s been awesome being recruited by him and LSU,” said Mukuba.

Recruiting can be wild, can LSU football close the deal?

While it certainly appears that Mukuba is high on the Tigers, there’s one important thing to remember in his recruitment — the talented safety hasn’t visited LSU. In fact, the only program that he’s visited has been Texas.

Will the Tigers be able to secure a commitment without a visit?

It’s something that Mukuba is open to doing.

“It’s going to be different making a decision based on not having been to campus, but I’m just going to go with the research I’ve done, plus the facts and stuff like that,” explained Mukuba.

LSU has some work to do, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they’re able to steal Mukuba right out of the Longhorns’ backyard.
