LSU Football: Tigers’ ideal schedule order in 2020
By Zach Ragan
LSU football will learn its 2020 schedule on Monday afternoon.
LSU football, along with the rest of the SEC, on Monday afternoon, will learn when they’ll be playing each team on their 2020 schedule.
The Tigers will enter the 2020 season looking to prove the doubters wrong.
LSU, despite winning the national championship in 2019 (in dominating fashion), hasn’t received much respect during the offseason.
That’s mostly because the Tigers lost a lot of talent to the NFL (14 players), plus passing game coordinator Joe Brady, who received a lot of the praise for LSU’s offensive breakout in 2019.
The Tigers, however, have plenty of talent. In fact, they have the talent to win the SEC West.
But there’s no doubt they’ll have some adjusting to do. There’s a new quarterback leading the offense, plus the defense is moving to a 4-3 look under new defensive coordinator Bo Pelini.
For those reasons, I think there’s a certain way the schedule could shake out that would benefit LSU.
The perfect schedule for LSU football in 2020
- Week 1 — @ Vanderbilt Commodores
- Week 2 — South Carolina Gamecocks
- Week 3 — @ Texas A&M Aggies
- Week 4 — Missouri Tigers
- Week 5 — @ Florida Gators
- Week 6 — Ole Miss Rebels
- Week 7 — @ Auburn Tigers
- Week 8 — @ Arkansas Razorbacks
- Week 9 — Mississippi State Bulldogs
- Week 10 — Alabama Crimson Tide
Alright, so here’s my thinking.
It would be nice to see the Tigers start the season with a couple of “easy” games to find their groove. By week 3 LSU should be in a nice offensive rhythm. They should definitely beat the Aggies.
Week five is going to be tough, but sandwiching Florida in between Missouri and Ole Miss should give the Tigers a chance to get their confidence back if they aren’t able to beat the Gators.
The same thinking goes for the week seven matchup against Auburn.
And of course, what better way to end the season than a game against Alabama, which could very likely decide the SEC West (not sure if the SEC would eschew Auburn-Alabama for LSU-Alabama, though).
I think this schedule would do a good job of not giving LSU back-to-back “tough games”, while also allowing the team to find their rhythm with a new quarterback.
