LSU football’s Ja’Marr Chase is a coach’s dream.

LSU football‘s Ja’Marr Chase has no reason to work like he has been this offseason.

The Louisiana native has no interest in thinking about 2019 or his NFL future — he’s only worried about the 2020 season.

Chase could easily isolate himself from his teammates. He could easily choose to just focus on himself.

Instead, Chase is leading workouts with teammates, imploring everyone on the team to get better.  His approach reminds me of a quote that I love to recite to my own son.

“How good can we expect to be if our best player is not our best teammate?”

This was certainly true of Joe Burrow in 2019. And it appears to be true of Chase in 2020.

LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron can’t stop praising Chase

It should be no surprise that Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron absolutely loves coaching Chase — even though the dynamic wide receiver doesn’t actually require much coaching.

“Ja’Marr is an excellent young man. He’s very humble. He doesn’t require a lot of attention. He’s not in the media a lot, he just comes to work. He’s a leader,” said Orgeron during a recent interview with 104.5 in Baton Rouge (via 247Sports).

“They’ve had player-only practices on Saturday morning when I come to work at 10 o’clock, they running through red zone routes on offense. They are on their own out there and he’s the one that’s leading. He’s the one encouraging everybody,” added Coach O.

I think this is incredible. And it’s a great example of why Chase is so good. He has that same quality that Burrow has — the desire to be great at all times, no matter what. Plus the desire to make everyone around him better.

Hopefully, the SEC gets all ten games in this season because watching Ja’Marr Chase suit up for LSU ten more times is a gift that I hope everyone gets to enjoy.
