Analyst believes LSU football has one of the biggest X-factors in college football.

Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently named his biggest X-factors for the 2020 season and he included an LSU football sophomore.

When you hear LSU football sophomore, your first thought is probably Derek Stingley Jr, the Tigers’ incredible cornerback who would already be a top selection in the NFL draft.

But that’s not who Miller went with. Instead, he went with the cornerback opposite Stingley, Cordale Flott.

The presence of Stingley is actually why Miller went with Flott.

“Cordale Flott will be tested…he’ll need to face quarterbacks such as Kellen Mond, Kyle Trask and K.J. Costello,” wrote Miller.

The Bleacher Report analyst added, “he’ll also be starting opposite arguably the best cornerback in the country, Derek Stingley Jr.—who those aforementioned talented quarterbacks will be trying to avoid as often as possible”.

Miller’s logic is sound, but he might be off base here.

Why Flott may not be a major X-factor for LSU football

Miller is right that whoever lines up at cornerback opposite Stingley will have a tough job on their hands. Quarterbacks are simply going to avoid Stingley as much as possible.

But there’s no guarantee that Flott will be LSU’s other starting quarterback.

In fact, 247Sports’ Sonny Shipp recently projected the Tigers’ depth chart and he has Eli Ricks starting ahead of Flott.

Ricks, a former five-star recruit, is a true freshman. But he’s extremely talented (the No. 2 cornerback in the nation in the 2020 class) and the Tigers aren’t afraid to put a true freshman in that position.

“Sources say Ricks will get every opportunity to show he can handle the task and performed well above his age in his limited time on campus,” wrote Shipp.

Going with either Flott or Ricks is probably wise. Whichever one starts is going to be an extremely important player for the Tigers.  It appears, however, that it will be Ricks who gets the first shot to start.
