LSU football’s 2020 schedule worked out as well as it could have

LSU football learned on Monday when they’ll be playing each team on their revised 2020 SEC-only schedule.
The Tigers are set to play their already-scheduled eight SEC games, plus matchups against Missouri and Vanderbilt (again, a gift from the SEC).
Here’s how the schedule breaks down for LSU.
- Sept. 26 – Miss. State
- Oct. 3 – at Vanderbilt
- Oct. 10 – Missouri
- Oct. 17 – at Florida
- Oct. 24 – South Carolina
- Oct. 31 – at Auburn
- Nov. 7 – BYE
- Nov. 14 – Alabama
- Nov. 21 – at Arkansas
- Nov. 28 – at Texas A&M
- Dec. 5 – Ole Miss
Why this is a good schedule for LSU football
The Tigers are pretty much guaranteed to get off to a 3-0 start — LSU really couldn’t ask for an easier start to the season.
With the “gimme” games off the schedule, it’ll be nice for the Tigers to start the season with a few games they should win. The matchups against Mississippi State, Vanderbilt, and Missouri will give LSU a chance to find their groove with a new quarterback (and new 4-3 defense) before facing Florida, which I think is the toughest game on the schedule.
The Tigers also benefit from not having to play Florida and Auburn in back to back weeks. LSU will have South Carolina sandwiched in between those games.
Something else that worked out for LSU is having a bye week before playing Alabama on November 14.
Finishing against Arkansas, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss is a nice chance to end the regular season on a three-game winning streak.
Overall, I really don’t think this schedule could’ve worked out any better for LSU. Ultimately, the Tigers still have to win games. But this schedule should put LSU in the best opportunity possible to finish with a great record in the SEC West.
