LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron has plenty of optimism entering the 2020 season.

It’s easy to be pessimistic about the 2020 season right now, but LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron is providing some much-needed optimism.

And it’s incredibly reassuring (and refreshing).

Back in March, when the novel coronavirus forced the entire world to press pause, I never dreamed we’d be talking about college football season being in jeopardy.

But as April turned into May and the cases kept rising, it became increasingly clear that the 2020 season was in danger.

When the Big 10 and Pac-12 decided to cancel their seasons, I became incredibly nervous that the SEC was going to follow suit. I can’t imagine a fall without football.

Fortunately, the SEC, along with the Big 12 and ACC, appear committed to play this year.

Now, I’m aware that could change at any given moment. We saw in March how quickly sports can come to a halt. One major outbreak could do the same for football this fall.

But for now, there’s optimism. And Coach O is providing some of that optimism.

LSU football’s Ed Orgeron feels the SEC will play this fall

Coach O will be the first to tell you he’s not a doctor, but he’s still feeling good about the liklihood of LSU and the rest of the SEC playing this fall.

“I am convinced that we’re going to play. I think it’s the right thing to do… Again, I’m not a doctor and it’s not my decision. But that’s what I think,” said Orgeron on Tuesday during a Zoom media session with reporters.

Coach O isn’t being cavalier with his optimism, either. He’s still making sure that folks are getting the right message about being safe.

“Wear your mask. Do the things you’re supposed to do,” said Orgeron.

No one knows how the fall will actually play out. Because of that, I’m taking comfort in Coach O’s words and looking forward to a fall with football, albeit a bit different than how we’re accustomed to seeing it.
