LSU football learned on Monday a key player is opting out of the season.

Senior defensive back Kary Vincent on Monday became the second LSU football player to opt out of the 2020 season.

Senior defensive tackle Neil Farrell opted out of the 2020 season earlier this offseason.

Vincent, a former four-star recruit who signed with the Tigers during the 2017 recruiting cycle, started eight games for LSU in 2019.

“With thoughtful prayer and lengthy discussions with my family, we feel that is is in my best interest to opt out of my final year at LSU and begin training for the NFL Combine,” said Vincent via his Twitter account.

Vincent added “I have worked long and hard for the opportunity to play in the NFL. I’m humbled and excited about attacking this next challenge with humility, integrity, and dignity and I will always be Forever LSU”.

According to a recent report from Rivals, there could be more Tigers opting out in the coming weeks.

More players opting out for LSU football?

Jimmy Smith, who covers LSU for Rivals, reported on Monday that “multiple impact players” are considering opting out this season.

Smith noted that the “lack of confidence” in a season happening, combined with fear of exposure to COVID-19 (and the unknown longterm effects of the virus), is the driving force for the players considering opting out.

This isn’t a situation that’s unique to LSU. Smith suggested that these conversations are happening at programs around the country.

While it appears that the majority of players in Power-5 conferences prefer to play, there’s also plenty of players who would prefer not to deal with the threat of COVID-19 (which is completely understandable) in 2020.

It’s unclear for now which LSU players are considering opting out, but I have a feeling we’ll see some names surface in the not-so-distant future.
