247Sports analyst changes opinion on LSU football in 2020
By Zach Ragan
One analyst is changing his opinion on LSU football in 2020.
Earlier this summer, 247Sports analyst Brandon Marcello revealed his predicted order of finish in the SEC and he had LSU football finishing third in the SEC West, behind Alabama and Texas A&M.
I, of course, vehemently disagreed with his prediction. I even suggested that Marcello was grossly overreacting to the Tigers’ loss of talent (LSU had 14 players selected in the 2020 NFL Draft).
Well, Marcello has come to his senses. In his updated predicted order of finish, Marcello has LSU finishing second in the SEC West, behind Alabama, and just ahead of Texas A&M.
Marcello didn’t give a specific reason for bumping LSU up in his predicted order of finish, but it’s likely because of the Tigers’ updated schedule.
A favorable schedule for LSU football
LSU’s two added opponents (Missouri and Vanderbilt) make for a favorable schedule. LSU should easily win both of those games (if they lose to either team they have some big problems).
Texas A&M didn’t get as lucky. The Aggies added Florida and Tennessee to their schedule. The Gators will likely be favored against Texas A&M (I don’t like the Aggies’ chances there). Against Tennessee, Texas A&M will probably be favored, but that game could go either way (it will be played in Knoxville).
I’m glad to see Marcello and 247Sports come to their sense (LSU is predicted to finish second in the SEC West in 247Sports’ collection of votes from various analysts). But I’m still disappointed it took a schedule change for them to get to this point.
Ed Orgeron and his team, however, don’t care where they’re predicted to finish. They’re just ready to play and prove some folks wrong in 2020.
Hopefully, the season goes off without a hitch so the Tigers can accomplish that goal.
