LSU football’s dominance in 2019 was something we may never see again in college football.

LSU football‘s 2019 season was more than historic — it was something we may never see again in college football.

The Tigers unexpectedly dominated college football in 2019.

LSU made its presence felt early last season by beating Texas, which was ranked No. 9 at the time, on the road in the second week of the season.

That win legitimized the Tigers as a title contender. But it wasn’t until LSU beat Florida, Auburn, and Alabama in the span of six weeks that folks started to realize just how special Ed Orgeron’s squad was last season.

The Tigers’ offense, between Joe Burrow’s historic season and the incredible wide receiver duo of Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson, was something to behold.

LSU averaged 48 points per game last season, which led the nation.

While that stat is incredibly impressive, it doesn’t truly show to what extent the Tigers dominated college football last year.

The stat that show’s LSU football’s dominance in 2019

It’s not the fact that LSU scored 48 points per game that’s amazing. It’s the fact that they didn’t rely on cupcake games to inflate their scoring average.

The Tigers dominated nearly everyone last season. They put up huge numbers against the best defenses in college football.

Check out this stat (via Fox Sports) that shows the top defenses in college football last season (in the ACC, Big 12, and SEC).

LSU played five of those teams last season.

Here’s how many points they scored against each one.

  • 37 points against Georgia
  • 42 points against Clemson
  • 42 points against Florida
  • 46 points against Alabama
  • 23 points against Auburn (Someone should give Auburn defensive coordinator Kevin Steele a raise apparently.)

The Tigers’ offense dominated against some of the best defenses in the sport. It’s truly incredible.

Now, the only bad news here is that LSU’s offense won’t be nearly as prolific in 2020. But that’s alright because the Tigers’ identity is still evolving under Coach O. And I think fans will like the way this team evolves.
