LSU football is hoping to land a 2021 five-star offensive tackle from Virginia.

LSU football is no stranger to recruiting battles with the Oklahoma Sooners.

The Tigers spent much of the winter battling OU for five-star quarterback Caleb Williams (Williams eventually committed to the Sooners after LSU took a commitment from Garrett Nussmeier).

Williams isn’t the only five-star recruit the two heavyweight programs have been fighting each other for, either.

2021 five-star offensive tackle Tristan Leigh is one of the most highly sought after recruits in the nation. The Virginia native is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 1 player in the state of Virginia and the No. 3 offensive tackle in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 11 overall recruit in the nation.

Leigh is being pursued by LSU, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Florida, Clemson and several others.

The LSU football target recently visited Oklahoma

Recruiting visits aren’t allowed right now, due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

But that doesn’t mean they aren’t still happening.

Recruits and their families can still go to campuses. They just can’t have contact with anyone on staff while they’re at the campus. It’s basically a show-yourself-around type deal (though coaches can utilize video calls to guide recruits around campus).

Leigh recently checked out Norman on one of these trips, with several other top recruits (including Williams).

LSU fans, however, shouldn’t worry too much that the Sooners are about to swipe Leigh from the Tigers.

According to a report from 247Sports, Leigh was in constant contact with Ed Orgeron and the LSU staff during his visit to Oklahoma.

The fact that Leigh was in communication with Coach O and the Tigers while he was on another program’s campus is a great sign for LSU’s chances of landing the dominant offensive lineman.

Now, LSU obviously still has to close the deal with Leigh. And other programs are going to continue their strong pursuit. But it certainly appears the Tigers could be the team to beat in this recruiting battle.
