Could LSU football be adding another elite tight end to their roster?

LSU football signed one of the best players in the nation during the 2020 recruiting cycle in five-star tight end Arik Gilbert.

But just because Gilbert is on the roster (and will likely be a superstar in the SEC), doesn’t mean the Tigers are ending their search for elite tight ends.

Ed Orgeron is always looking for more talent to add — sign great players and the rest will take care of itself.

That’s why it shouldn’t be a surprise that LSU is pursuing four-start tight end Thomas Fidone, 6-foot-5/225 lbs from Council Bluffs, IA (Lewis Central).

Fidone is rated by 247Sports as the No. 1 player in the state of Iowa and the No. 1 tight end in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 37 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.

LSU isn’t the favorite to land Fidone, but they’re still in the mix. And it wouldn’t be a total shocker if the Tigers were able to steal the elite tight end out of the midwest.

LSU football still has a shot to land Fidone

Nebraska appears to be the favorite to land Fidone, but Rivals LSU insider Jerit Roser isn’t ready to rule LSU out.

“Don’t ever necessarily count LSU out for a late push — even in a virtual world,” wrote Roser this week.

The Tigers would probably have to get Fidone on campus to have a real shot here, but even if they don’t, I wouldn’t necessarily close the door the Iowa native potentially landing in Baton Rouge.

If Fidone wants to compete for championships and eventually reach the NFL, there isn’t a better spot for him than LSU.

However, if he wants to stay closer to home, then Nebraska will likely be the pick.

Either way, it says a lot about Coach O and his staff that LSU is this strongly in the mix for an elite tight end from the midwest despite recently signing Gilbert.
