LSU football could soon be adding a tight end to its 2021 recruiting class.

LSU football could soon be adding a tight end to their 2021 recruiting class according to a couple of 247Sports recruiting writers.

Sonny Shipp and Shea Dixon have each recently placed “crystal ball predictions” for three-star tight end Jalen Shead to LSU.

Shead, 6-foot-4/240 lbs from Olive Branch, MS (Olive Branch), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 13 player in the state of Mississippi and the No. 49 tight end in the nation.

The Mississippi native hasn’t received a lot of attention from the major recruiting services, but several “big name” programs have certainly taken notice of him. Shead has offers from Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Ole Miss, South Carolina, and TCU, among several others.

LSU football shifting the way they use their tight ends

Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron recently pointed out that LSU now views their tight ends as receives more than blockers.

Essentially, the Tigers are hoping to recruit pure athletes to play tight end.

And that’s exactly what Shead is. The three-star recruit also plays basketball, which means he possesses plenty of athleticism.

LSU currently has 16 players committed to its 2021 recruiting class. They don’t have a tight end committed yet.

After missing on four-star tight end Thomas Fidone this week (he committed to Nebraska over LSU), there’s no doubt that the Tigers are hoping to add Shead, who is set to announce his commitment on Sunday.
