Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow didn’t look like a Heisman Trophy winner on Thursday.

Former LSU football signal-caller Joe Burrow has been as advertised so far during his short time as the Cincinnati Bengals’ starting  quarterback

Burrow has been praised as a leader and a teammate. And he’s looked like a polished veteran on the practice field.

On Thursday, however, Burrow finally looked….average.

The Athletic’s Jay Morrison reported that Burrow and the Bengals offense were put in a tough situation during Thursday’s practice.

Cincinnati’s offense got the ball on the two yard line and was told to get two first downs. They were not successful.

On 11 plays starting from the two yard line, Burrow went 1-3 with two pass breakups.

It was an underwhelming day for a player that’s been anyhting but underwhelming during his climb to the top of the football world.

No reason to worry about Joe Burrow

While LSU fans and Bengals fans aren’t accustomed to Burrow looking “average”, it’s nothing for those fans to be concerned about (especially Cincinnati fans).

This is why these situations are practiced. Burrow is going to be forced to start from his own two yard line (or a similar spot) a lot as a rookie. He needs to get comfortable in those situations against NFL players.

Sure, Burrow knows what to do. And he knows how to do it. But there’s no substitute for quality reps.

Burrow will learn from what went wrong on Thursday. And he’ll be a better quarterback because he didn’t get those two first downs.

Adversity is what makes good players great. It’s good for Burrow to face some adversity. It’s only going to make him better.
