LSU football finished the week on a high note by receiving a commitment from a four-star defensive back.

2021 four-star defensive back Nathaniel Wiggins announced his commitment to LSU football on Friday, which also happened to be his birthday.

Wiggins, 6-foot-2/170 lbs from Atlanta, GA (Westlake), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 13 player in the state of Georgia and the No. 8 cornerback in the nation. He’s also rated as the No. 117 overall recruit in the nation.

The Georgia native committed to LSU over offers from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Oregon, and USC, among several others.

So what set the Tigers apart from those other programs?

It’s all about the coaching.

Why LSU football landed Wiggins over top rivals

Going into Atlanta and landing an elite cornerback over Georgia is never easy. That’s the Bulldogs’ backyard, so it’s always nice to steal talent from the area.

The reason LSU was able to steal Wiggins all came down to coaching — specifically cornerbacks coach Corey Raymond.

“What set LSU apart from the other schools was coach Raymond, how he can develop me at cornerback, our connection and just what LSU can do for me as a player,” said Wiggins to Rivals after committing to the Tigers.

The dynamic cornerback added, “I am happy to be done with recruiting and have my decision. I am really excited about playing in front of the LSU fans. They are crazy there and I can’t wait to get there.”

Wiggins actually hasn’t visited LSU in person yet. He went through a virtual tour with the Tigers coaching staff, which was apparently enough to seal the deal (it also shows that LSU is doing a great job with their virtual visits).

LSU now has 17 players committed to its 2021 recruiting class, which is currently ranked No. 3 in the nation.
