Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow has a wish that’s unlikely to be granted.

Former LSU football star Joe Burrow is off to a solid start as the Cincinnati Bengals’ starting quarterback.

Burrow, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Bengals, has earned plenty of praise from teammates for the way he handles himself.

“Joe, he’s going to be great for the next 15 years. It’s just getting that rhythm. We’re always talking…Joe is going to be a great one,” said Cincinnati wide receiver AJ Green last week.

While I’m sure Burrow is happy to hear the praise from teammates, he’s not going to let that go to his head. Burrow is purely focused on leading his team to wins.

And that means doing everything in his power to be prepared for the start of the season.

Joe Burrow won’t be able to prepare quite like he wants to prepare

The 2020 NFL season will look a lot different than what we’re accustomed to seeing, thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

One of the most notable changes (aside from limitations on fans at games) is the absence of preseason games.

The Bengals, like every other team in the NFL, will go straight into the season without having played a single preseason game.

That means Burrow will start his first regular-season game without any experience playing against an opposing team.

As a result, Burrow is hoping the Bengals’ practices get a bit more physical in the coming weeks.

“The one thing I think I am a little worried about is not getting hit until the first game,” said Burrow to reporters over the weekend (via The Athletic).

The defending Heisman Trophy winner added, “I’ve been kind of lobbying to be live in one of these scrimmages. I don’t know how well that’s going to go over, if I’m going to get my wish. But we’ll see.”

I feel quite certain that Burrow will not be getting his wish. There’s no way Cincinnati is going to risk the future of their franchise getting hurt in a practice because the quarterback was live.

However, I understand where Burrow is coming from. He wants to be as prepared as possible. And getting hit by an NFL player for the first time in a regular season game isn’t exactly ideal.

Of course, this is Joe Burrow we’re talking about. I have a feeling he’ll end up being just fine.
