LSU football is hoping to land a four-star running back from Texas.

LSU football is one of the many programs pursuing 2021 four-star running back LJ Johnson.

Johnson, 5-foot-10/204 lbs from Cypress, TX (Cy-Fair), is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 4 running back in the nation and the No. 7 player in the state of Texas. He’s also rated as the No. 42 overall player in the nation.

The talented running back recently released his top four schools, which included the Tigers, along with Oklahoma, Texas, and Texas A&M.

LSU should seemingly have the inside track to land Johnson — his dad is a former Tigers defensive lineman. But it’s not LSU that appears to be out in front for Johnson, according to a couple of Rivals recruiting analysts.

Will LSU football land LJ Johnson?

Rivals recruiting analysts Adam Gorney and MIke Farrell recently discussed where they think Johnson will land.

And they don’t feel like it will be in Baton Rouge.

While LSU would absolutely be a great desitiatnon for Johnson (familiarity, opportunity, and history of putting players in the NFL), Gorney and Farrell feel like this recruiting battle will come down to Texas and Texas A&M.

They have the Longhorns edging out the Aggies for the four-star running back.

“The Longhorns will win this one, but it will be close between Texas and the Aggies,” wrote the Rivals recruiting analysts.

It’s unclear when Johnson plans to commit. However, he’s not expected to commit until at least sometime after his senior season kicks off (in late September).

This is a kid the TIgers absolutely want to land (especially since he’s an LSU legacy), but they don’t have a lot of time left to make an impression.

Ultimately, it sounds like it would be a surprise if LSU lands Johnson. But you can never rule Ed Orgeron and the Tigers out for a top recruit.
