Why LSU football should be viewed as favorite for top recruit in the nation
By Zach Ragan
LSU football should be the team to beat for the nation’s top-rated player.
LSU football is in the midst of a tense battle for the nation’s top-rated player, five-star defensive end Korey Foreman, and it’s starting to look like the Tigers might be the team to beat.
Foreman, 6-foot-4/265 lbs from Corona, CA (Centennial), is a former Clemson commit who appears to be destiend for the SEC.
USC is also in the mix for the California native, but the uncertainty surrounding Clay Helton’s future as the Trojans’ head coach, combined with the allure of playing in the SEC, has left Georgia and LSU as the perceived favorites for Foreman.
The Bulldogs are always tough to beat for elite recruits (UGA head coach Kirby Smart is one of the best recruiters in college football), but the Tigers should absolutely be viewed as the team to beat for Foreman.
And it has a lot to do with 2021 five-star defensive tackle Maason Smith.
LSU football hoping to land Smith and Foreman
By now, the friendship between Foreman and Smith has been well documented. The elite duo wants to play together at the next level.
The only place that’s happening is at LSU — because it’s hard to see Smith landing anywhere else.
“The vibe I got from talking to some folks was that Maason is still trending to LSU and it’s going to be tough for another team to snag him,” wrote 247Sports’ Shea Dixon on Sunday.
Foreman’s decision will likely come down to Georgia and LSU.
The Tigers can offer everything the Bulldogs can offer. And more.
Georgia is hoping to compete for national championships. LSU is already winning national championships.
No one sends players to the NFL like LSU, either.
When you combine all that with the fact that Smith will almost certainly land in Baton Rouge, it seems like a no brainer that LSU should be considered the favorites to land Foreman.
A lot can (and will) change in the coming months. But for now, if I had to bet, I’d go with the Tigers landing the top-rated player in the nation.
