LSU Football: Rival defender praises quarterback Joe Burrow
By Zach Ragan
Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow is two games deep into his NFL career.
Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow isn’t off to the start he was hoping for with the Cincinnati Bengals, but that hasn’t stopped his new NFL rivals from praising him.
On Thursday night, the Bengals lost 35-30 to the Cleveland Browns. It was Cincinnati’s second loss of the young season.
Burrow, despite playing well, obviously wasn’t happy with the loss.
“This might be the only time in my sports career that I’ve lost two games in a row…Losing is unacceptable to me,” said Burrow after the loss (via Marisa Contipelli).
But while Burrow wasn’t happy, a rival defender for the Browns was quick to praise the rookie quarterback.
Myles Garrett heaps praise on Joe Burrow
Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett, much like Burrow, is an extremely competitive football player. It’s what makes him one of the best young edge defenders in the NFL.
Garrett, however, knows when a quarterback is special. And it’s clear he sees a special trait in Burrow.
“The guy is tough. He took a lot of shots, and he bounced right back up,” said Garrett after the Browns’ win on Thursday night against the Bengals (via Bengals.com).
“He was still putting deep ones on the money and he always kept his eyes downfield. He was never really worried about the rush, unless it was really on him. That is better than some veteran quarterbacks.”
(Side note: I can’t help but wonder if Garrett was throwing some shade at his own quarterback, Baker Mayfield, with that last comment.)
Burrow has a lot of learning to do. But he’s clearly on the track to greatness.
In fact, he might be the only person that could make the Browns/Bengals rivalry interesting once again.
