LSU Football: 2021 Tigers recruiting target announces commitment date
By Zach Ragan
One of LSU football’s remaining 2021 recruiting targets will commit this week.
LSU football currently has 18 players committed to its 2021 recruiting class (currently ranked No. 4 in the nation per 247Sports), which means the Tigers have room to add a few more players.
One of the players LSU is looking to add is three-star offensive lineman Diego Pounds, 6-foot-6/305 lbs from Raleigh, NC (Millbrook).
Pounds is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 25 player in the state of North Carolina and the No. 38 offensive tackle in the nation.
The North Carolina told 247Sports this week that he plans to announce his commitment on Friday (September 25) at 3:30 pm et.
An under-the-radar gem for LSU football?
Pounds isn’t a highly rated recruit, which is why it’s kind of odd to see the Tigers pursuing him. It would be different if Pounds was from Louisiana. But going all the way to North Carolina for a three-star?
It obviously means that Ed Orgeron and his staff are higher on Pounds than the recruiting services.
And they aren’t alone.
LSU is battling Auburn, Penn State, and North Carolina for the massive offensive lineman.
For now, it’s totally up in the air where Pounds will land.
Though it appears he already knows where he’s committing on Friday.
“I just felt like I found my home. I felt like I fit there and it’s my type of people and I love the coaches and the program,” said Pounds to 247Sports.
It’s hard to glean much from that statement.
However, according to Rivals, Penn State is the perceived favorite for Pounds (even though he has yet to visit the school).
I’m not sure how hard LSU is swinging at Pounds, but it certainly appears that Pounds won’t be a Tiger, barring a last minute change.
