LSU football quarterback Myles Brennan lost his first career start on Saturday.

LSU football fans seemed pretty confident in Myles Brennan heading into Saturday’s matchup against Mississippi State.

After the game, however, fans didn’t seem as confident. Perhaps that’s because it was the Tigers’ first loss in nearly two years.

I get it. It’s been a long time since LSU fans have watched their team lose. And after watching Joe Burrow’s historic 2019 season, it’s probably tough to watch a quarterback who doesn’t appear to have superhuman qualities.

But fans should still be just as confident in Brennan after the loss as they were before. He’s still a talented quarterback. And I still believe he’s going to be a great player in the SEC.

LSU football’s Myles Brennan has a lot of learning to do

Brennan’s final stat line looked pretty good, despite the loss.

The redshirt junior tossed for 345 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions. He completed 58 percent of his passes and had a rating of 134.5.

Those aren’t necessarily Joe Burrow in 2019 numbers, but they’re better than Joe Burrow in early 2018 numbers.

In Burrow’s first career start for LSU, way back in 2018, he tossed for 140 yards, 0 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions. Burrow completed 45 percent of his passes and had a 94.8 rating.

The difference?

LSU won in Burrow’s first start.

But otherwise, Brennan had a better debut.

I don’t think there’s any doubt that Brennan is a talented player. And I think fans need to realize that this is essentially a brand new team. Most of the offensive weapons that Burrow had are now gone. Brennan also lost his No. 1 wide receiver (Ja’Marr Chase) just a month before the start of the season.

Burrow didn’t turn into Burrow the legend overnight. There was a lot of learning that happened in 2018. Brennan is going to go through those same growing pains this season.

The good news for LSU after season-opening loss. dark. Next

Don’t lose faith in the young quarterback. He’s good. And he’s going to get better.
