LSU football is hoping to land an elite 2021 running back.

2021 four-star running back LJ Johnson is one of the most sought after recruits in the nation and LSU football is heavily in the mix to land him.

Johnson recently revealed his top four schools and he included the Tigers, along with Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M.

The dynamic running back is expected to announce his commitment sometime in December.

Rivals recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman expects the decision to come down to Texas and Texas A&M, but it certainly sounds like Johnson is still considering LSU.

“They speak for themselves when it comes to Leonard Fournette, Derrius Guice and the good running back tradition they have over there,” said Johnson this week to Rivals. “I’m in Louisiana a lot, which is why I feel comfortable over there and why I like it over there a lot”.

Johnson was born in Louisiana and his dad played at LSU, so there’s plenty of familiarity there.

Of course, this will end up being a business decision for Johnson, which means the family connection might not come into play.

What LSU football would get in LJ Johnson

Johnson, 5-foot-10/204 lbs, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 4 running back in the nation and the No. 7 player in the state of Texas. He’s also rated as the No. 42 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.

247Sports midlands region recruiting analyst Gabe Brooks describes Johnson as a “Hole-puncher who hits it hard”, while noting that he has “impressive lateral quickness in the hole”.

Brooks also says Johnson has “great top-end speed with [an] eye-opening verified 4.42 40”.
