LSU Football: SEC Network analyst pays Derek Stingley Jr a huge compliment
By Zach Ragan
LSU football cornerback Derek Stingley Jr is one of the best football players in the nation.
By now, everyone knows how important cornerback Derek Stingley Jr is to LSU football‘s success.
LSU gave up over 600 passing yards in the season-opener against Mississippi State without Stingley in the lineup.
The absence of one player obviously isn’t to blame for that kind of defensive breakdown. But I think a lot of folks would agree that if Stingley had been in the lineup, the Tigers probably don’t lose to the Bulldogs.
Stingley is only a sophomore, which means LSU gets to keep him in Baton Rouge for one more season (after 2020).
Even though one SEC Network analyst thinks Stingley would be one of the top selections in the 2021 NFL Draft.
SEC Network analyst pays Derek Stingley Jr a huge compliment
Prior to LSU’s matchup against Missouri on Saturday (which was moved to Columbia, due to Hurricane Delta), SEC Network analyst Rod Gilmore paid Stingley a massive compliment.
Gilmore, who played college football at Stanford, said he believes if Stingley was eligible for the 2021 NFL Draft, not only would he be the top defensive back selected, the LSU defender would be a top-five overall pick.
That’s absolutely insane to think about.
Stingley has played less than two years of college football. Yet he’s already viewed as one of the best available players in the draft. And he’s not draft eligible for another 18 months!
There’s been plenty of times over the last decade when a highly-touted player wasn’t able to live up to the recruiting hype.
Stingley, however, is a player that’s exceeding the recruiting hype. That’s especially crazy to think about when you consider he was the No. 3 overall rated recruit in the nation in the 2019 recruiting class!
