LSU football could be the program to beat for one of the nation’s top-rated 2021 recruits.

LSU football is off to a slow start in 2020 and there’s some concern that a “down year” could end up hurting the Tigers in recruiting.

After all, one of the main recruiting pitches that other programs use against LSU is that the Tigers’ were a one-year wonder in 2019. Essentially, other programs are telling recruits that LSU doesn’t have staying power.

A poor 2020 season for the Tigers won’t do much to dispel that notion.

Not everyone, however, believes LSU’s tough start is having a negative impact on recruiting.

In fact, 247Sports recruiting analyst Steve Wiltfong thinks the Tigers are the team to beat for one of the nation’s top-rated 2021 recruits.

LSU football is hoping to land five-star defensive end Shemar Stewart

The biggest name LSU is chasing in recruiting right now is Korey Foreman, the five-star defensive end that’s rated as the top 2021 recruit in the nation.

But there’s another 2021 defensive end who’s rated nearly as high as Foreman.

Five-star defensive end Shemar Stewart, 6-foot-5/236 lbs from Opa Locka, FL (Monsignor Pace).

Stewart is rated by 247Sports as the No.1 player in the state of Florida and the No. 2 overall 2021 recruit in the nation.

Wiltfong recently spoke to a source in Florida about Stewart’s recruitment, which led the 247Sports recruiting analyst to make a Crystal Ball prediction for Stewart to LSU. He acknowledged that this battle is far from over while noting that Ohio State and Georgia are “tailing closely behind”.
