LSU Football: Top 5 Tigers wide receivers of all time
By Zach Ragan
4. Wendall Davis — 1984-1987
Here’s one for the old-timers.
Wendall Davis probably isn’t a well-known name to younger fans, but he undoubtedly made a big impact during his time in Baton Rouge.
Davis, who was a first-round pick in the 1988 NFL Draft, was the SEC player of the year in 1987 after catching 72 passes for 993 yards and seven touchdowns.
What’s wild is that Davis’ 1986 season was actually better (he caught 80 passes for 1,244 yards and 11 touchdowns in just 11 games).
Davis is No. 2 all-time at LSU in receiving yards. His 1,244 receiving yards in 1986 is the fourth-highest season total ever by a Tigers wide receiver. And his 19 career receiving touchdowns is No. 8 all-time at LSU.
Remember, Davis, played in a different time when teams didn’t throw the ball nearly as much as they do today. Teams also played fewer games in a season. If you adjust for those conditions, Davis would likely be right at the top of most statistical categories for LSU.
