LSU Football: Top 5 Tigers wide receivers of all time
By Zach Ragan
3. Michael Clayton — 2001-2003
I love me some Michael Clayton — what an athlete.
Clayton played three years at LSU and made a huge impact. His 21 career receiving touchdowns set an LSU record in 2003 (which was later broken by several wide receivers).
The former Tigers standout wasn’t known for having mega-games, he was just remarkably consistent.
Clayton is No. 2 at LSU in all-time career receptions. He’s No. 4 in career receiving yards. And he’s No. 5 in career touchdowns.
Again, it’s important to remember that most programs didn’t throw the ball as much in the early 2000s as they do now.
Clayton was just an all-around great football player (he played some safety at LSU), who ran great routes and had tremendous hands. He was essentially a coach’s dream.
It’s no coincidence that Clayton was part of a national championship team at LSU.
