LSU football is in a bad place after a loss to Auburn on Saturday.

LSU football isn’t in a very good place right now.

The Tigers are 2-3 and sitting near the bottom of the SEC West after a 48-11 loss to Auburn on Saturday.

LSU didn’t really do anything right on Saturday. The offense, which was led by true freshman TJ Finely (who was playing in place of an injured Myles Brennan for a second straight week), made a lot of mistakes.

But to put this loss solely on the offense would be a mistake. The defense was terrible.

However, that didn’t stop Glenn Guilbeau of The Dailey Advertiser from doing his best to put the loss on the offense.

The worst take on LSU football’s loss to Auburn

“Do not blame LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini for this one,” wrote Guilbeau on Saturday.

I’m sorry, what?

Auburn put 506 yards of total offense. They rushed for over 200 yards.

The offense may have played bad (particularly the offensive line), but LSU never stood a chance on Saturday because of the defense.

I have no idea why Guilbeau feels the need to shield LSU defensive coordinator Bo Pelini.

The defense hasn’t been good since Pelini reemerged in Baton Rouge this past winter. In fact, it’s been historically bad.

I can’t blame LSU fans for piling on Pelini right now. There’s zero reason to trust anything Pelini is doing.

Look, the guy hasn’t been a defensive coordinator in the SEC for over a decade. Things have changed. There’s no doubt he has a great defensive mind, but he’s not getting results. Maybe he just doesn’t know how to connect with players these days.

Whatever it is, Pelini doesn’t deserve to be protected by the media in Baton Rouge.

And that’s why that terrible take from Guilbeau had to be called out today.
