LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron was far too kind this week.

LSU football head coach Ed Orgeron is known for being extremely candid.

There’s not much coach speak with Orgeron — he says what’s on his mind at all times.

It’s a great quality that I wish more coaches possessed.

This week, however, I felt like Coach O was a bit too kind during his weekly press conference — specifically when it came to the topic of Alabama quarterback Mac Jones being compared to former Tigers quarterback Joe Burrow.

Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is playing extremely well this season. As a result, the Crimson Tide’s offense is the best in the nation.

Anytime a quarterback in the SEC starts playing well, there are inevitable comparisons to what Joe Burrow accomplished in 2019.

Burrow’s 2019 season was a season unlike anything we’ve ever seen before — the former LSU standout was perfect nearly every single week.

Jones has been really, really good this season. And he’s on pace to put up similar numbers to Burrow last season. But until Jones gets to the end of the season, it would be completely unfair to compare him to Burrow.

Orgeron, however, didn’t push back against the Burrow comparisons quite like I would’ve expected.

“The guy is having a tremendous year,” said Orgeron this week (via 247Sports). “Somebody asked me to compare him to Joe Burrow, and he may be. I don’t know.”

“Hopefully for him that he has a great career. I don’t know him as well as Joe. You know, Joe brought a lot of intangibles to us. I’m sure the guy is doing the same thing.”

I get that Orgeron isn’t going to push back too hard against rival players. But I would’ve liked to have seen him put Burrow on a higher pedestal.

dark. Next. Myles Brennan has a big decision to make

Burrow is possibly the greatest college football quarterback of all time. Comparisons to him shouldn’t be tossed around lightly.
