Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow suffered a season-ending injury on Sunday.

Former LSU football quarterback Joe Burrow, the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, has been everything the Cincinnati Bengals could’ve hoped for this season.

But unfortunately for Burrow and the Bengals, the rookie quarterback’s season is over.

Burrow suffered a torn ACL in the Bengals’ loss to the Washington Football Team on Sunday.

The former Heisman Trophy winner confirmed that his season was over by tweeting “see ya next year” on Sunday evening.

Joe Burrow’s injury shows us something incredibly important

There’s really nothing good to take from Burrow’s injury. It’s a shame to see one of the game’s brightest young stars suffer a season-ending injury.

But as someone who’s an eternal optimist, I always try to find something good to focus on.

On Sunday, while Burrow was being carted off the field, we saw several Washington football players rush to Burrow’s side.

Chase Young, Dwayne Haskins, and Terry McLaurin all made it a point to get to Burrow and give him some words of encouragement before he was taken off the field.

Why is this important?

Because those are all former Ohio State players who were teammates with Burrow during his time in Columbus.

I thought this was pretty awesome to see. Burrow obviously left Ohio State to pursue a better opportunity at LSU. But those bonds he created at Ohio State transcend the sport’s rivalries.

It doesn’t matter that Burrow didn’t finish his career at Ohio State — he’ll always have a special bond with those players.

Sometimes it’s wise to take a step back from the intense rivalries and remember that these young players are people before they’re athletes.

We saw a great display of that on Sunday in the midst of an agonizing moment.
