LSU football should have a say in who reaches the College Football Playoff this season.

LSU football won’t be playing in the College Football Playoff this season.

And thanks to the SEC, they might not even get a chance to have a say in who plays in the playoff this year.

The Tigers’ game against Alabama was postponed earlier this season due to positive COVID-19 tests.

It was the second LSU game to be postponed (the Florida game was also postponed).

Because of a cramped schedule, there’s no guarantee that LSU’s game against Alabama will be played.

Tigers head coach Ed Orgeron said on Monday that the SEC would like to play the game. But Coach O wasn’t able to definitely say if the game will be played.

LSU football not playing Alabama would be an insult to the College Football Playoff

I don’t think LSU is going to beat Alabama this season. The Crimson Tide’s offense is simply too good. And the Tigers are nowhere near a championship level team right now.

On paper, it’s a win for Alabama all day long.

But games, of course, aren’t played on paper.

LSU, as the defending national champions, should have a say in who reaches the playoff. And Alabama should have to beat the Tigers in order to secure a spot in this year’s playoff.

The thought of Alabama getting a spot in the playoff without playing LSU is absolutely absurd. It should never even be considered. LSU/Alabama has to happen.

If it doesn’t happen, then I don’t think Alabama can be viewed as a viable playoff contender.

The SEC needs to do the right thing here. I know the scheduling won’t be easy. But they should go ahead and make it clear that the game will be played.
